Steady Adventure

Loft Project 2018

My clients, Ross, Ria, and Reed, are an active family that love adventure but need stability to sustain a healthy life. The building is located on the corner of W Broadway and Cambie next to the Broadway-City-Hall Skytrain station. An area surrounded with hustle and bustle allows the family to get active and adventure right outside there home. But what if they didn’t have to leave their home? In my process I found it hard to have only adventure in a home environment especially with a family needing stability in their lives. Through my findings, my concept became “Steady Adventure”. Combining steady and adventure (two opposing elements) was a challenge since simply applying anywhere and anyway seemed to take away from the overarching idea. In my research I found that by placing two opposing elements side by side, your perception of each is enhanced or diminished due to the direct comparison. Therefor, I assigned the steady concept to the task areas (Bathroom, Kitchen, and Dining) directly adjacent to where I assigned the “Adventure” concept in the circulation and "Destination" zones (Bedrooms, and Living).
